Following a scuffle over closing the gate of a property, a 37-year-old man was shot dead in the early hours of Monday in Fatehpur Beri, which lies in the south of the city, the Delhi Police said.
An officer said that the victim, Santlal, a caretaker and gardener, was allegedly shot in the chest by a teenager, Piyush Yadav, who is a local real estate agent, after a verbal altercation over the closing of a gate of the property escalated, leading to the incident.

Adding to it, he mentioned, “The incident happened in the wee hours, near the Shamshan Ghat in Dera village.”
With the information, a police team rushed to the spot where women were crying loudly in the neighbourhood. Upon reaching the spot, the team saw a man lying in an unresponsive state near the cremation ground.
Santlal had sustained a gunshot injury in the middle of his chest, and an empty cartridge was recovered from the crime scene.
Officers, along with the crime team and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) experts, inspected the spot and collected forensic evidence.
Subsequently, the body was shifted to Safdarjung Hospital for post-mortem examination.
While investigating this case, it came out that the teenager, who had been accused in this case, had a verbal disagreement with Santlal over the closing of a gate of the property. Eventually, the altercation escalated, and in a fit of rage, Piyush, 19, allegedly shot Santlal in his chest and fled the spot immediately after committing the crime, the officer said.
On the basis of the local inquiry conducted and technical surveillance, he was arrested.
Following a brief questioning, he confessed to the crime, and the weapon of offence was confiscated from his residence after the disclosure, police said.
The officer stated that the victim had been working as a caretaker of the property where the incident occurred and also worked as a gardener at various locations in the vicinity, while the accused is reported to be working as a real estate agent in Chattarpur Phase 2.
A case under relevant sections of the BNS has been registered at Fatehpur Beri police station, he said. Further investigation is underway to establish the full sequence of events and motive.
