Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla Thursday extended heartfelt congratulations to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) on the successful launch of the NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) satellite. The satellite was launched via the GSLV-F16 rocket from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota on July 30.

“On behalf of the House, hearty congratulations were extended to all the scientists associated with ISRO and NASA for this important success and success was wished for the future space missions. This achievement is a symbol of the scientific capability of the country, which will become a source of inspiration for future generations,” Birla told the Lok Sabha today.

The NISAR satellite is a historic achievement in Indian space science, marking the first joint mission of its kind between ISRO and NASA. Established in a sun-synchronous polar orbit, the satellite will utilise microwave imaging technology to study global ecosystems and marine regions. This mission is expected to provide valuable insights into the Earth’s surface, enabling scientists to monitor natural disasters, track climate change, and understand ecosystem disturbances.

NISAR carries two radar frequencies, L-band and S-band, which will enable it to detect changes in the Earth’s surface with high accuracy.

The satellite will provide high-resolution images of the Earth’s surface, allowing scientists to study natural hazards, climate change, and ecosystem disturbances.

NISAR will scan the entire globe every 12 days, providing unprecedented coverage of the Earth’s land and ice surfaces.

Om Birla’s congratulatory message highlights the significance of this achievement, saying it is a symbol of the nation’s scientific capability that will serve as a source of inspiration for future generations. The successful launch of the NISAR satellite is a testament to the collaboration between ISRO and NASA, demonstrating the potential for international cooperation in space exploration.
