On July 22, the Special Cell arrested a 22-year-old wanted terrorist, Akashdeep alias Bazz, an associate of the Babbar Khalsa International, from Indore in Madhya Pradesh in connection with a grenade attack.

During his custodial remand, and based on the leads during interrogation as well as inputs from intelligence sources, another accused, Karanbir, was arrested from Gurdaspur in Punjab.

Following the grenade attack, a post circulated on social media by Happy Passia, Mannu Agwan, and Gopi Nawanshahria — associates of the banned terror outfit BKI — claimed responsibility for the attack and issued threats targeting the national capital.

Twenty-two-year-old Karanbir has studied up to Class 12.

During questioning, he revealed that he had been in contact with a person from Punjab who is based abroad and handles operations for the banned outfit.

It has been revealed that he was in touch with the handler through social media applications and was receiving instructions to carry out criminal acts of terror.

He had also visited a West Asian country in 2024. The accused is said to have facilitated the stay of two persons at his residence prior to the grenade attack in Batala. Further investigation is currently underway in the matter, a police official said.
