Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva on Sunday paid tribute to the three civil services aspirants who tragically drowned in the basement of a coaching centre in central Delhi’s Old Rajendra Nagar following sewer backflow on July 27, 2024. He also paid tribute to a student who died from electrocution due to a hanging wire in Patel Nagar.
Sachdeva stated that due to the alleged criminal negligence and corruption by the then Arvind Kejriwal government, no proper cleaning of drains and sewers was carried out in 2024. This, he claimed, led to the untimely deaths of the four talented students, along with nearly 50 other citizens of various ages who drowned in waterlogged areas across the city.

He said the BJP had promised in its 2025 assembly election manifesto to address the issue of waterlogging, and expressed satisfaction that the present government has managed to keep water accumulation to a minimum.

Sachdeva further stated that the BJP government in Delhi had kept its word to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in Old Rajendra Nagar, Patel Nagar, Moti Nagar, Burari, Kirari, and other areas. He claimed that, unlike last year, when over 50 lives were lost due to waterlogging in the city, no such incidents occurred this year owing to the government’s vigilance and preparedness.
In July last year, three civil services aspirants got trapped in the basement of a building that housed a coaching centre after water gushed in following heavy rain.
