Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, stating that the government has allocated crores of rupees in the budget for the development of the slums clusters, said on Sunday that in case shanties are brought down due to certain reasons, arrangements would be made to provide houses to eligible slum dwellers.

She said this is being done so that the eligible residents of the slums could truly be called residents of the country’s capital.

Addressing slum dwellers on Sunday, Gupta urged them to not fall for the things being said by the party leaders whose previous government in the state merely treated them as voters. She accused AAP leaders of trying to provoke slum residents, as the present government is working on policies for their development.

Gupta paid a visit to a slum camp in Shalimar Bagh, for which a notice has been issued for the removal.

Notably, the Railways is planning to expand the Azadpur station. The CM informed that the survey for the removal of the slum was conducted in 2020, while the then AAP government neither took any decision regarding the matter, nor did they have any talks with the Railways.

She said that the Delhi government was not in favour of the removal of the camp. Hence, she has come to meet the people. Her regime is already planning a scheme for the benefit of the residents so they do not face any problem.

She made it clear that in case slums have to be removed to push development works in the city, the government will open venues of resettlement of the slum dwellers.

Gupta has assured that she would speak to the Railways in the matter and make arrangements to provide a house for each of the slum dwellers, they need not worry.

The CM stated that during the past decades the slums in the city did not witness any development, be it during Congress or AAP governments.
