The Congress on Saturday criticized the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar as Vice President of India, dubbing it a “political exit camouflaged as a constitutional lie.”
Congress MP Abhishek Singhvi accused the government of showing signs of insecurity over its inability to control the narrative on the impeachment motion against Justice Yashwant Varma.

Addressing a press conference, Singhvi said that Dhankhar’s resignation comes after the Chairman had inquired about the admission of a separate motion in the Lok Sabha, which suggests that the government was keen on pushing its own agenda.
“We believe that Dhankhar’s resignation is a political exit camouflaged as a constitutional lie,” he said.
The Congress leader also criticized the government’s approach to the impeachment motion, saying that it reflects a lack of willingness to cooperate with the Opposition. Singhvi accused the government of prioritizing its own interests over the principles of democracy and accountability.
The development has raised questions about the government’s intentions and the future of the impeachment motion against Justice Varma. Singhvi said that the government’s decision to push forward with its motion in the Lok Sabha would likely lead to a joint committee of Parliament not being possible, and instead, only a committee from the Lok Sabha would inquire against Justice Varma.
