Senior BJP leader and Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday took a jibe at Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, over his recent admission that he erred in not pushing for a caste census earlier and fell short in protecting the interests of the Other Backward Castes (OBCs).
Chouhan stated that the Congress leader tends to realise things far too late.

“Rahul ji understands very late. First, he apologised for the Emergency. Then he apologised for the Sikh riots. Then he apologised to OBC. What did Congress do for OBC? Congress did the work of crushing every possible step for the welfare of the OBC. He also apologised in the Rafale case, and for what Rahul Gandhi is doing now, he will apologise again after ten years. He never does the right thing and apologises after ten years…,” Chouhan told reporters in Delhi.
His remarks came a day after the Congress leader admitted his failure in understanding the OBC plight and not holding the caste census when his party was in power. He stressed that it was not the Congress party but he who erred in not pushing for the caste census earlier.
Speaking at the ‘Bhagidari Nyay Sammelan’ organised for the OBC community at Talkatora Stadium in Delhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha said, “I regret that if I had known more about your history and issues, I would have got the caste census conducted. That is my mistake and not that of the Congress. I am going to correct that mistake now.”
He, however, hailed his party’s achievements and commended it for bringing the land acquisition bill, MGNREGA, the food bill, and the rights of tribal communities.
The Gandhi scion also asserted that the recently held caste census in Telangana would trigger a massive political earthquake.
Urging the OBC youths to recognize their strength and unite for their rights, the Congress leader said that the RSS was their biggest enemy. He also accused the right-wing organization of attempting to erase OBC history.
