The Communist Party of India (CPI), a strong constituent of the INDIA bloc, has staked claim to 24 seats in the upcoming Assembly elections in Bihar.
In the 2020 assembly elections in the state, the party had fielded candidates from six constituencies but won only two.

Addressing the media in Patna on Monday, CPI State Secretary Ram Naresh Pandey said the party has submitted a list of 24 seats to INDIA Convenor Tejashwi Yadav.
The Left leader said his party has a strong presence across the state and its team of over 83,000 dedicated workers has the potential to transfer its votes to the alliance partners in all 243 Assembly constituencies in Bihar. Thus, the party deserves a reasonable number of seats.
Justifying the party’s demand, he said that the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation, which was contesting as alliance partner for the first time, was allocated 19 seats in the 2020 state polls. “Our party has a bigger presence and stronger support base across Bihar than the CPI (ML). Hence, we should get a reasonable number of seats,” he argued.
Earlier, CPI General Secretary D Raja inaugurated a social media control room at the party’s Patna office to establish communication with the public and speed up digital publicity.
Speaking on the occasion, he said in today’s digital age, social media is not only a medium of communication but has also become a powerful tool for public opinion formation, public awareness and social change.
Raja also appealed to all democratic-secular forces, organisations supporting democracy-socialism and intellectuals to join the ‘Badlo Sarkar – Bachao Bihar’ rally, organised by the party in Patna on 8 September.
