Reiterating the AIADMK’s stand on forming a government on its own in the 2026 assembly election, party general secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy (EPS) has asserted that the Dravidian major is no pushover to succumb to the idea of a coalition government.
“We are not a gullible pushover. The AIADMK will form a government on its own, winning a majority. We will align with any party, but on our terms. We enter into an alliance, if we desire so, and if not, we don’t. We are not concerned or perturbed about anything,” he said, responding to the criticism of Chief Minister MK Stalin and the DMK’s allies about the AIADMK sharing power with the BJP.

He was addressing a massive rally at Thiruthuraipoondi in Thanjavur district, on Saturday evening, as part of his campaign “Save People and Retrieve Tamil Nadu”.
Claiming that Stalin has caught a fever after the sealing of the AIADMK-BJP alliance, he said, “AIADMK is heading the alliance and the party will form the government by winning more than 210 seats, as some more parties are about to team up with us. That all the parties committed to overthrowing the DMK government have to come under one umbrella is our position, and for this, the AIADMK and the BJP have come together. The election result will be a fatal blow to the DMK, and to hide this, Stalin is trying to divert attention,” adding that, unlike the DMK, the AIADMK is not for dynastic rule.
Then, at Vedaranyam in Nagapattinam district, he alleged that the DMK government had plunged the state into an unprecedented debt trap with each newborn having a debt of Rs 1.5 lakh on its head. “Because of poor governance and financial mismanagement under Stalin, every child born has a debt of Rs 1.5 lakh. Since coming to power, the DMK government has borrowed Rs 5 lakh crore, and the repayment will befall on the people by way of higher taxes. The public will have to pay for the inefficiency of this government,” he said.
