In a bid to resolve one of Delhi’s most persistent traffic bottlenecks, the construction of a major underpass and a flyover is underway at the intersection (near Shiv Murti) of Urban Extension Road-2 (UER-2) and the Delhi- Gurugram- Jaipur highway.

Public Works Department (PWD) minister Parvesh Verma and Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa jointly inspected the site to assess progress and address existing concerns.

This vital infrastructure project is aimed at addressing the long-standing issue of congestion in parts of outer Delhi.

Notably, lakhs of vehicles pass through this stretch on a daily basis, and years of delays at the junction have resulted in time loss, fuel consumption, and increased air pollution.

PWD minister, following the inspection stated that he had come to review the mistakes made along with all the consultants.

“We will study it again and try to fix any remaining issues or gaps. The people of Delhi deserve long-term, practical solutions — not patchwork fixes. We are committed to ensuring that this project genuinely decongests the city, ” he added.

Located at a strategic point connecting Najafgarh, Dwarka, Rohini, and the NH, the flyover and underpass are expected to significantly ease traffic load and reduce dependence on overcrowded alternative routes.

Minister Sirsa has said that, “Our goal is to control pollution, which increases significantly due to heavy traffic. We are focused on finding ways to manage and reduce this pollution effectively. Projects like this will help address not just congestion but also Delhi’s air quality concerns,” he added.

Both the ministers emphasized that timely completion, technical accuracy, and citizen-focused planning are critical to the project’s success, and regular reviews will be carried out to ensure accountability at every stage.
