Congress leader KC Venugopal has strongly criticized the BJP and the Election Commission of India (ECI) over the proposal for a nationwide Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Warning that the move would subject every Indian citizen to suspicion and threaten their voting rights, Venugopal said in a post on X: “The BJP has mastered the art of taking a bad idea and making it worse…As if the chaos and opposition to the Bihar SIR weren’t enough, the BJP-controlled ECI now wants to subject the entire country to this trauma.”

“Every Indian citizen will be looked at with suspicion, their voting rights will be under threat, and the entire electoral system will be rigged,” he warned.
“The ECI must shelve all proposals for a nationwide SIR immediately,” Venugopal urged.
The controversy over the proposed nationwide SIR has been intensifying, with several opposition parties and civil society groups voicing concerns about its potential impact on voter rights and electoral fairness.
The proposal has drawn widespread criticism, with many arguing that it would disproportionately affect marginalized communities and undermine the democratic process.
