Bengal couple arrested for murder of DU professor over property dispute
According to Delhi Police, the couple travelled from Bengal to Delhi to kill Debosmita Paul, who was an Assistant Professor at Shivaji College, University of Delhi.

The accused was involved in a case of firing and attempted murder registered at the Jahangirpuri police station.

“We received specific information about Nitin’s whereabouts near Shah Alam Band Marg, close to the Majlis Park Metro Station,” said Bhisham Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police.

The officer continued by saying, “When the police team signalled him to stop, Nitin abandoned his motorcycle and tried to flee, opening fire on the police team. In self-defence, we fired a shot aimed at Nitin’s lower body, hitting him in the left leg.”
The police recovered a country-made pistol used in the commission of the crime, two empty cartridges, one mobile phone and one motorcycle.
During sustained interrogation, the accused confessed to his involvement in the attempt to murder case. Thereafter, he revealed that he had committed the offence along with three associates, two of whom have already been apprehended.
Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the remaining absconding co-accused, the officer said in a statement.
The matter came to light on Friday when a stabbing and firing incident was reported at the Jahangirpuri police station, where the victim, Mohommad Azharuddin, was attacked by four boys, including Nitin and his other three associates.
The DCP said Nitin attacked Azharuddin with a knife, stabbing him multiple times, while the other acquaintance of his fired a shot at him. “The police are now investigating Nitin’s connections and the extent of his involvement in other crimes,” the officer added.
The case is under further investigation with the police working to apprehend the remaining suspects.
