An impeachment proposal against Justice Yashwant Verma, who has been implicated in a high-profile cash scandal, is set to be tabled during the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament, scheduled to begin on July 21.

The government has initiated discussions with Opposition parties in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, seeking their support for the proposal. Sources indicate that Opposition leaders have assured the government of their support for the move.

According to parliamentary procedure, at least 100 signatures from Members of Parliament are required to initiate the impeachment process. Official sources from the Central government have confirmed that efforts are already underway to collect signatures from both Houses in support of the motion. Once the motion is admitted, an investigation committee will be constituted to conduct a formal inquiry.

Justice Verma has refused to resign, denying the allegation against him despite the evidence reportedly found by an investigation committee substantiating the charges against him. Following this, the committee submitted its preliminary findings to the Supreme Court, the President, and the prime minister.

Government insiders suggest that the impeachment proceedings would be carried out during the monsoon session of Parliament if Justice Verma does not resign in the coming days.

Meanwhile, some Opposition leaders accused the government of delaying the removal process despite having sufficient grounds to proceed with it.
