A panch (village council member) was shot dead by militants in J&K’s Kulgam district on Wednesday, police said.

“He sustained several injuries. He was rushed to district hospital Kulgam where doctors declared him dead on arrival,” a source said.

Sources added that the area has been cordoned off for searches.

Two brothers of Dr Umar, who was working at Al-Falah University in Faridabad, have also been detained.
The security forces are continuing with their operation in Akhal Devsar area of South Kashmir's Kulgam district for the eighth consecutive day.So far, one terrorist has been neutralised in the operation.
Police sources said that Imtiyaz Ahmad Magray, 23, had given food and shelter to terrorists in Kulgam district, and he drowned after he jumped into a river while escaping from the security forces.
