It’s freezing out there in the northern part of the country with the temperature falling well below the zero mark and cold wave sweeping the plains.
But that’s not the news here, the news, which might sound as bizarre, is, the southern state of Kerala is experiencing unprecedented cold and Munnar town, which is a popular hill station, located in the Idukki district, recently recorded a minimum temperature of -3 degree Celsius during the first week of the New Year 2019.

With Munnar hill-station experiencing sub-zero temperatures, it has suddenly found a place on the bucket list of locals and tourists alike as a blanket of frost has covered the hillsides. On Saturday, a thick layer of frost and dense fog had descended on Munnar.
Munnar, which is also called the ‘Kashmir of South India,’ is a popular honeymoon destination, situated at around 1,600 metres (5,200 ft) above the sea-level in the Western Ghats mountain range. Munnar is also home to Anamudi, the highest peak in South India with a height of 2,695 mts.

Southern India is witnessing unusually cold weather at this time of the year as a few days back Bengaluru saw a minimum temperature of 7 degrees Celsius.
