Former batting great Sachin Tendulkar and current Indian skipper Virat Kohli are often regarded as two of the best Indian cricketers. However, according to India’s 1983 World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev, former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is “the best cricketer India has ever produced.”
MS Dhoni is arguably one of the most successful captains India has ever had having already guided Team India to three major ICC titles – ICC World Cup 2011, ICC T20 World Cup, and ICC Champions Trophy.

“MS Dhoni is the greatest player India has ever produced. He played 90 Tests and then said let’s give a chance to the youngsters. Dhoni did that and hats off to him for putting his country before himself,” Kapil Dev was quoted as saying by India Today.
The Ranchi cricketer had announced retirement from the longest format of the game in 2014. MS Dhoni also stepped down as the captain of India’s ODI and T20I sides in January 2017. After Dhoni stepped down, Virat Kohli took up the responsibility to lead the national side in every format of the game (T20I, Test, ODIs).
The 37-year-old wicket-keeper batsman has led India in 200 ODI matches winning 110 of them while losing 74 games. Dhoni, with a winning percentage of 59.52% also has the best winning percentage among Indian captains. Former Indian cricketer and captain Mohammad Azharuddin is second in the list with a win percentage of 54.16%.
