Days after brandishing a gun outside Hyatt Regency in New Delhi, Ashish Pandey, son of former BSP MP Rakesh Pandey, reached Delhi’s Patiala House court on Thursday and surrendered.

Before surrendering, Pandey released a video message saying that he only took the gun for his safety. In the message, he said that CCTV footage of the hotel can prove that there was someone in the ladies washroom that night. The man allegedly present in the women’s washroom threatened Pandey after which he brought his gun.

“I’m being projected like I’m a wanted terrorist and police across the nation is looking for me. Look Out Circular has been issued against me. If you check CCTV footage, you’ll find who went to ladies toilet that night and who threatened whom,” Pandey said in the video.

“I took the gun with me for safety. I didn’t brandish it. It was hanging behind me all the time. I didn’t even address that girl, she pushed me&made obscene hand gestures. I’ve faith in judiciary and so I decided to surrender. There is no history of police case against me,” he added.

On Wednesday, the Patiala House court had issued a non-bailable warrant against Pandey after a case was registered against him for threatening a man with a gun at a luxury hotel.

The warrant was issued a day after a First Information Report was lodged against him for whipping out a pistol during a scuffle with another man and his woman friend at Hyatt Regency in south Delhi early on Sunday.

Ashish was seen waving a gun while arguing with a woman and threatening her right outside the Hyatt Regency Delhi on 14 October. He was also seen hurling abuses and threats at the woman and her partner.

A few people were seen intervening in the matter trying to calm Ashish down.

The incident, which reportedly occurred on October 14, was shot on a mobile camera.

On the basis of the video, a case has been registered against Ashish Pandey under the Arms Act and the Indian Penal Code, the police said.
