Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United bailed him out in dramatic fashion, rallying from 0-2 down to win 3-2 against Newcastle United on Saturday night and the Portuguese manager praised his side’s character in the aftermath of the victory.

United were winless in four games (all competitions) heading into their Premier League encounter at Old Trafford and media reports were circulating that it might be Mourinho’s final game in charge.

The writing was seemingly on the wall as the Magpies, winless so far in the season, stormed into a shock 2-0 lead with less than 15 minutes on the clock.

As the half-time whistle sounded, that two-goal deficit remained intact, but the Red Devils managed to open their account on the night thanks to an excellent free-kick from Juan Mata in the 70th minute.

Six minutes later, Anthony Martial levelled proceedings and the comeback was complete when Alexis Sanchez rose highest to head home in the 90th minute.

Here’s Mourinho speaking to MUTV after a pulsating fixture in Manchester:

United rise to eight in the Premier League table and have a tally of 13 points after eight games played.
