RJD chief Lalu Prasad, who is serving jail terms in connection with fodder scam cases, has been granted a three-day parole to attend his elder son Tej Pratap Yadav’s wedding in Patna later this week.

Earlier, it was reported that Lalu Prasad had received a five-day parole. Inspector General of Prison Harsh Mangla, however, has now confirmed that the RJD leader was on Thursday granted three days’ parole.

The effective dates of parole will depend on the time when the jail authorities release him, PTI reported.

Currently, Lalu Prasad is undergoing treatment at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) hospital in the Jharkhand capital of Ranchi after being shifted from New Delhi’s AIIMS on May 1.

Former state minister Tej Pratap got engaged to Bihar’s former Chief Minister Daroga Prasad Rai’s granddaughter Aishwarya Rai in a grand ceremony at a 5-star hotel in Patna on 18 April. The couple will tie the knot on 12 May at Veterinary College ground in Patna.

Tej Pratap Yadav and Aishwarya Rai had exchanged rings in the presence of family and friends in the absence of Lalu Prasad.

After coming back from Delhi, Lalu Prasad was admitted to the cardiac ward of the RIMS in Ranchi. He was discharged from AIIMS as doctors said there was “significant improvement” in his condition. Prasad, however, alleged a “political conspiracy” behind his discharge.

Prasad has been convicted in four fodder scam cases since 2013 — the latest being the Dumka treasury case, in which a special CBI court sentenced him to 14 years in jail.
