The racketeers had been using fake rubber stamps of inspectors-in-charge (IC) of different police stations and other officials. The CID has arrested two persons in the past two days.

Sleuths conducted raids at internet cafes in the town. “In the first raid in a shop at East Dhantala at Fulbari in Jalpaiguri district last night, we seized 35 fake mark sheets and certificates of different persons of different educational institutes, including the NBU, along with a laptop, one colour printer, 31 forged rubber stamps of head masters of different schools, ICs of different police stations, local councillors, gram panchyat pradhans, and some driving licences.

The owner of the shop, Gautam Sarkar, has been arrested,” a senior CID officer said.

Officials said Mr Sarkar used to issue fake mark sheets to students in exchange for anything between Rs 2,000 and Rs 3,000. The CID later raided a DTP (Desktop Publishing) centre at Bagha Jatin Park in Siliguri and arrested its owner, Gautam Dey.

“We got leads after the first arrest and conducted another raid at the DTP centre today, where we have found fake rubber stamps and blank migration certificate forms of most of the schools. The owner of the centre, Gautam Dey, has been arrested,” the officer said.

Sources said that the CID seized six rubber stamps, one blank migration form, two printers, one scanner and some documents in the second raid. The Special Superintendent, North, CID, Ajay Prasad, said investigations have started.
