Special postage stamp unveiled to mark India’s 30-yr mobile journey
It has been three decades of mobile telephony in India with the historic first mobile call made on 31 July 1995 by then West Bengal chief minister Jyoti Basu to then telecom minister Sukh Ram using a Nokia handset on Modi Telstra’s network - a defining moment that not only revolutionised communication in India but also laid the cornerstone for the country’s ongoing digital evolution.
