As a part of the awareness drive, the Sambalpur railway division of East Coast Railway on Monday organised a ful- scale joint disaster management exercise at Lapanga station.

National disaster response force Munduli, Odisha disaster rapid action force, Jharasuguda, local industries of Aditya Aluminium,Bhusan Power and Steel and Ariyan Ispat, local administration, state fire service, state health service, railway Scouts and Guide, civil defence of railway, NGOs like Social Star Club and Sambal of Sambalpur and all other relevant departments of railway participated in this important exercise.

The exercise was conducted using modern equipments like cutting of rail coach body, firefighting and quick medical evacuation. Divisional railway manager (DRM) of Sambalpur, Dinesh Kumar Singh visited the site and interacted with all the participants to make the programmed more popular and effective. “The exercise will help railways and all participating agencies to tackle any unanticipated state of affairs in a co-ordinated manner and thus can minimise the hardship faced by the victims,” he said. Senior divisional safety officer, Mr Manoj Kumar Beura appreciated the role played by all the participating agencies and volunteers for their whole hearted support in making the exercise a successful one that is essential for exigency.
