Intermittent rains for the last five days left an elderly woman dead and two injured in the district, according to official sources.
The deceased has been identified as Paluni Bewa (80) of Kabatabandha village under Dharmasala block. The elderly woman died after coming under the mud wall of her house which collapsed last night.
In another incident, one Gitanjali Biswal (56) of Kelanga village under Kamardihi village under Dasarathpur block in the district sustained injuries when a wall of her mud house fell on her on Thursday,
Sources said that around 60 thatched houses in the villages of Dasarathpur, Binmjharpur, Bari, Dharmasala, Rasulpur, Danagadi, Barachana and Korei blocks were damaged due to the incessant rains.
Meanwhile, incessant rains have triggered floods in Bari, Binjharpur and Dasarathpur areas.Flood water are reported to have gushed into several villages marooning more than 10,000 people. Besides, rain water flooded in many low-lying areas of Jajpur and Vyasnagar cities in the district.Rivers like Baitarani, Brahmani, Kani, Budha and Kharasrota are rising due to non-stop rain.The district administration has directed to the BDOs to evacuate the marooned people and provide them cooked food.“BDOs of Binjharpur, Bari, Dasarathapur, Jajpur and Korei blocks have been asked to provide dry relief to marooned people. If necessary evacuate them to shelter centres and serve them cooked food,” said Collector Anil Kumar Samal.
