A girl was allegedly gangraped by two people in a casuarina forest in the Balitutha area at the entry point of proposed Posco site, police said.
Though the incident happened three days ago, an FIR was lodged only yesterday. The two accused ~ Jagannath Mall and Sanjay Behera ~ are absconding.
According to the police, the victim, a resident of Bagoi village under Kujang police limit had an affair with youth of Kankardia village. Since their parents did not approve of their relationship, they had eloped and were staying in a cottage in the Balitutha area.
Earlier, On 4 July, the two of them reached the railway station to board a train to Cuttack but they failed to do so and were stranded. The boy friend his friend Jagannath Mall for help and he in turn asked the two to reach Balitutha to stay overnight at the thatched house.
The same night, Mall and Behera of Badabuda village knocked the door of the house and attacked the boy friend.
They forcibly took the girl to the forests and raped her after tying the legs of the boy friend and bolting the door of the house from outside. They also threatened to kill her and her lover if she lodged an FIR in local police station.
The inspector in charge of Kujang police station Mr Chinmaya Rout said the police has seized the dress material of victim girl and sent her to nearby hospital for examination.
The accused persons are absconding, he added.
