Balasore, 4 August: A fire broke out in a BSNL mobile tower near Mandal Market at Damodarpur in Balasore town this morning.
Fire tenders were pressed into service to bring the fire under control at the unit  installed on the roof of a three-storied building.
A fire official informed that fire broke out in the base terminal station (BTS) of the tower. “The fire was promptly brought under control,” he said. Incidentally, the roof of the building, which was previously a “kalyan mandap”, accommodates a tower of a private telecom service provider, and the second floor of the building is used by a private company entrusted with database work for “Aadhar card”. No damage to them has been reported.
Sources said that some locals sighted smoke bellowing out from the tower unit and informed the fire station staff. It was later found out that the fire broke out from one of the AC units fitted for BTS and spread to other equipments.
There has not been any major damage, claimed departmental officials. “It was an accidental fire.   No major damage has occurred. The tower will remain unserviceable till the repair and restoration work are completed,” said divisional telecom engineer Mr RD Majhi.
