KOLKATA, 7 JUNE: State industry minister Partha Chatterjee today denied the involvement of any Trinamul Congress activist in the attack on the two television journalists during the day and asserted that his party didn’t approve of attacks on the media.
When it was pointed out that the attack was the handiwork of his party activists who were carrying Trinamul flags, Mr Chatterjee said carrying party flags was no proof that the men belonged to his party.
"Having said that, let me categorically tell you our party believes in freedom of speech and expression and is against any restriction or curb on the media. Whoever was involved in the attack on the two journalists would be identified by the administration and brought to book," Mr Chatterjee said.
He also said the chief minister has asked for those responsible for the attack to be brought to book.
“The CM has given instructions to police to nab those (guilty of) assaulting the media personnel,” TMC leader and state industries minister Partha Chatterjee told PTI.
The minister also said his party supporters and activists were well aware of the fact the party chief Mamata Banerjee had followed the democratic path of fast and non-violence to oust the Marxists from power.
