MALDA, 27 JUNE: A baby girl faced her father&’s wrath because her mother had delivered five daughters consecutively.
While Malay Tudu, blinded with rage, tried to hit his wife Sumati Murmu with a sharp weapon, she escaped the attack but their one-year-old daughter Sunita, who was standing in front, was at the receiving end and was rushed to Malda Medical College Hospital (MMCH) in a critical condition. The incident occurred at Sanchi village under Chanchal police station.
Malay, a farmer, and his wife Sumati have five daughters aged between one and 10 years. The birth of five daughters one after another irked Malay and the couple often had heated exchanges, police sources said. Even intervention by the local community could not mend fences between the husband and the wife.
Ms Murmu informed police that after a tiff with her today, her husband Malay tried to attack her and her one-year-old daughter Sunita with a sharp scythe. As Sumati quickly removed Sunita, the scythe&’s blow landed on the child&’s feet. Malay was later arrested based on the complaint filed with police by his wife.
