Chandila custody
NEW DELHI, 20 JUNE: Suspended cricketer Ajit Chandila was today remanded in 12 days’ judicial custody by a Delhi court after police said that his custodial interrogation in the IPL spot-fixing case was over.
Chandila, who has been quizzed in custody for three days, was produced before vacation judge Rajender Kumar Shastri who sent him to Tihar jail till 2 July. pti
CTT from 1 July
KOLKATA, 20 JUNE: The 0.01 per cent commodity transaction tax (CTT) on various non-agricultural commodities proposed by the finance minister Mr P Chidambaram in his Union Budget 2013-14 will become a reality from 1 July. The CTT was first proposed in the Union Budget 2008-09. The delay in implementation of the tax was due to opposition from the food, consumer affairs and public distribution ministry and brokerages on the pretext that when the market is attaining volumes and maturity, the CTT would dampen business in the commodity bourses. sns

Kashmir rail link
NEW DELHI, 20 JUNE: The much-awaited railway section, providing an all-weather surface link to the Kashmir valley, will be launched by Prime Minister Manm-ohan Singh and UPA cha-irperson Sonia Gandhi on 26 June. Mr Singh and Mrs Gandhi will jointly flag off the first train on the 18-km-long section, marking the start of the service. sns

BAGHDAD, 20 JUNE: Agreeing to move beyond buyer-seller relationship, India and Iraq today decided to expand their partnership in energy security.
