Berhampur, 4 September
Police staged a flag march in Goshaninuagaon and Gate Bazar, both crime-prone areas of the town here in view of the urban polls.
Night patrolling in the area has also been intensified and this will continue till September 19 when election for Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BMC) is slated to be held, said a senior police official today.
Five platoons of policemen and three mobile units are on the job in each police station area, said Deputy Inspector General of Police Amitabh Thakur.
Police also launched a special drive to nab anti-socials and trouble-makers as part of measures to prevent any disturbance in the run up to the urban polls, he said.
Similarly in Ganjam police district, seven platoons of police have been in some towns. More forces will be deployed in sensitive and hyper-sensitive booths, the DIG said.
