Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Saturday ordered Punjab Police to set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the death of senior journalist KJ Singh and his 92-year-old mother.

Senior journalist KJ Singh and his mother were found dead at their residence in Mohali’s 3B2 area, police said on Saturday.

According to media reports, Singh’s green coloured Ford Ikon car is reportedly missing from his home.

“There was injury marks on their necks,” Mohali Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Alam Vijay Singh said.

Investigations are underway to ascertain the motive behind the murder, police said.

Singh has worked with The Tribune, The Indian Express and The Time of India.

Shiromani Akali Dal president and former Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal has expressed shock at Singh’s demise.

KJ Singh’s murder is the third instance of crime against journalists in one month.

Earlier in the month, 55-year-old senior journalist Gauri Lankesh was shot dead by unidentified assailants outside her residence in Bengaluru and last week, a television journalist from Tripura, Shantanu Bhowmik, was allegedly killed by Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) party cadres.
