After days of intrigue-building campaigns around Assi, the makers have finally unveiled a striking motion poster that confirms Taapsee Pannu as the face of the upcoming courtroom drama directed by Anubhav Sinha.

A chilling glimpse into ‘Assi’

Released on Friday, the motion poster opens on an unsettling note, a young girl running along railway tracks, frantically trying to escape as three men chase her. The visuals are stark, urgent, and deliberately uncomfortable. The words “An Urgent Watch” flash across the screen before the poster ends with a haunting image of Taapsee Pannu, her face smeared with ink, staring straight ahead.

Sharing the motion poster on Instagram, Taapsee wrote, “It’s been long… long since we normalised this… See you in court… I mean the theatres… #Assi — an urgent watch, only in cinemas from 20th Feb.”

A campaign built on questions, not answers

The promotional campaign for Assi began earlier this week with minimalistic, text-only posters that immediately grabbed attention. One of them read: “Eighty. Per Day. Every Day. ASSI”, followed by the film’s release date, February 20.

Another poster made an unusual announcement, revealing the writer as the highest-paid crew member. In a rare move, the film chose to foreground writing before naming the cast, director, or production house, underlining the central role of storytelling in Assi.

A courtroom drama that challenges ideas of justice

Described as a relentless investigative thriller, Assi unfolds as a high-voltage courtroom drama that forces viewers to confront uncomfortable truths. The film raises pressing questions about guilt, accountability, and the way society defines justice.

As the narrative progresses, it leaves audiences asking: Why didn’t I know this? Or did I, and chose to look away? The film challenges the notion that only those proven guilty are responsible, suggesting that complicity may run deeper.

Ensemble cast and powerhouse backing

Alongside Taapsee Pannu, Assi features an impressive ensemble including Revathy, Manoj Pahwa, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Kani Kusruti, Naseeruddin Shah, Seema Pahwa and Supriya Pathak.

Presented by Gulshan Kumar and T-Series, Assi is a Benaras Mediaworks production, directed by Anubhav Sinha and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar and Anubhav Sinha himself. The film is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on February 20.

A familiar collaboration with a sharper edge

Taapsee Pannu and Anubhav Sinha have previously collaborated on socially resonant films such as Mulk and Thappad. With Assi, the duo once again promises a film that goes beyond entertainment, aiming to spark debate and reflection long after the credits roll.
