Smriti Mandhana-Palash Muchhal wedding: The news fans didn’t want to hear has finally come from Smriti Mandhana herself. India’s star cricketer and music composer Palash Muchhal have officially called off their much-anticipated wedding, meaning they are not getting married. After weeks of swirling rumors and endless speculation, Mandhana took to Instagram on December 7 to break the silence and set the record straight.
In a statement, Smriti requested privacy, saying, “Over the past few weeks there has been plenty of speculation around my life, and I feel it is important for me to speak out at this time. I am a very private person and I would like to keep it that way, but I need to clarify that the wedding is called off.”
She went on to plead with fans and the media alike to respect both families’ privacy. “I would like to close this matter here and implore all of you to do the same. I request you to please respect the privacy of both families at this time and allow us the space to process and move on at our own pace,” Mandhana wrote.
The cricket star also shared how she plans to redirect her energy and focus. Representing India at the highest level has always been her driving force, and she reaffirmed that this will remain her top priority.

“I believe there is a higher purpose driving us all, and for me, that has always been representing my country at the highest level. I hope to continue to play and win trophies for India for as long as possible, and that is where my focus will forever be. Thank you for all your support. It’s time to move forward,” she concluded.
The wedding that wasn’t
The Smriti Mandhana-Palash Muchhal wedding had been expected to be one of the most talked-about events of the year especially after India’s Women’s World Cup victory. Fans had been eagerly waiting to see the two tie the knot after Palash surprised Smriti with a proposal at the DY Patil Stadium during the championship celebrations.
The wedding was initially taking place on November 23, 2025 in Sangli. However the ceremony postponed indefinitely under unfortunate circumstances.
On the very morning of the wedding, Smriti’s father suffered a sudden medical emergency that required hospitalisation. As if fate wasn’t done testing the couple, Palash also required hospital care, reportedly due to acidity.
Rumours and backlash
Once news of the wedding’s postponement spread, social media erupted with speculation. There were screenshots of conversations from multiple women, including Mary D’Costa, floating on the internet that accused Palash Muchhal of cheating. Muchhal’s family strongly denied these allegations and condemned the false narratives circulating online.
During this turbulent period, both Smriti and the India team members who had been part of the wedding celebrations quietly removed photos from social media. Jemimah Rodrigues, one of Mandhana’s closest teammates even withdrew from the Women’s Big Bash League to remain in India and support her friend during the difficult time.

Palash Muchhal too released a statement acknowledging the breakup. He shared how painful the experience has been, emphasising the emotional toll of seeing false rumors and gossip spread about something that was deeply personal to him.
“I have decided to move on in my life and step back from my personal relationship. It has been very difficult for me to see people react so easily to baseless rumours about something that has been most sacred to me. This is the most difficult phase of my life, and I will deal with it gracefully, holding on to my beliefs,” he said.

Is this the end for Smriti and Palash?
Social media sleuths quickly noticed that Smriti had unfollowed Palash on Instagram, while Palash continued to follow her. Fans also observed that when she returned from her brief social media hiatus on December 5, she shared an advertisement video without wearing her engagement ring.
Back to cricket, the Mandhana way!
Despite the emotional upheaval, Smriti Mandhana is going to focus on her cricketing career. In her statement, she highlighted that representing India and winning trophies remain her main priorities.
The left-handed star is also going to lead Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the upcoming Women’s Premier League starting January 9 in Navi Mumbai.
