IEB’s first national sports meet concludes in Haridwar; Patanjali Gurukulam dominates wrestling events

The first phase of the Indian Education Board’s National Sports Competition came to a close at Patanjali Acharyakulam grounds in Haridwar. For two days, young athletes from across the country participated in different events representing 50 schools.

The event marked the first phase of the national-level tournament organized under the Indian Education Board (IEB). The competition will now move to Agra for the second phase followed by Lucknow and Jaipur, where the grand finale will be held.

Over 150 schools from Haridwar and nearby districts gathered to watch the performances and cheer for their favorite teams, making the competition a grand success.

Patanjali Yogpeeth’s General Secretary Acharya Balkrishna interacted with the players and praised their enthusiasm. He said, “The energy and commitment these children have shown are proof that they will make the nation proud on international platforms in the future.”

Yoga Guru Swami Ramdev also blessed the athletes and made an exciting announcement that an indoor stadium is soon to be completed at Patanjali, where more national and international sports events will be hosted. “This is just the beginning. Our goal is to create a new generation of strong, confident, and value-driven sportspersons,” he said.

IEB’s Acting Chairman NP Singh shared details about the upcoming rounds of the competition in Agra (November 13–14), Lucknow (November 17–18), and Jaipur (November 21–22). He also distributed medals and certificates to the winners.

The national coordinator of the IEB, Swami Punya Dev Maharaj, highlighted the spirit of the event: “These two days at Haridwar were not just about competition, but about learning teamwork, discipline, and respect. The sportsmanship displayed by the students was remarkable.”

Several dignitaries graced the occasion including Dr. Ritambhara (Vice President, Acharyakulam), Swati Munshi (Principal, Acharyakulam), Satyendra Panwar (Affiliation Advisor, IEB), and Swami Eesh Dev (Principal, Patanjali Gurukulam). The stage program was hosted by Vandana Pandey, Education Advisor for Gurukul.

The competition witnessed intense matches and impressive performances across sports as Patanjali Gurukulam Haridwar and Acharyakulam Haridwar emerged as the overall champions in multiple events.

In Boys Under-17 Kabaddi, Acharyakulam Haridwar won the championship securing 12 gold medals, while Azad Hind Inter College, Mau finished second with 12 silver medals.

In Girls Under-17 Kabaddi, Acharyakulam Haridwar once again dominated bagging 12 gold medals, followed by Patanjali Gurukulam Haridwar, which took home the silver.

The Under-19 Boys Kabaddi title also went to Acharyakulam Haridwar, with Patanjali Gurukulam finishing as runner-up. Similarly, in Girls Under-19 Kabaddi, Acharyakulam won the winner’s trophy, while Patanjali Gurukulam took the second spot.

In Boys Under-17 Handball, Acharyakulam Haridwar claimed victory, securing 12 gold medals. Rainbow Academy Kotdwar was runner-up with 12 silver medals.

In Girls Under-17 Handball, Acharyakulam Haridwar again emerged victorious while Rainbow Academy Kotdwar took second place.

For Under-19 Handball, both the boys’ and girls’ teams from Acharyakulam Haridwar won their respective categories, adding to the school’s impressive medal tally.

In Boys Under-17 Mallakhamb, Karam Yogi from Patanjali Gurukulam Haridwar won gold, and Rishabh from Gurukul Kishangarh Ghaseda, Haryana, took silver.

In Boys Under-19 Mallakhamb, Krish from Patanjali Gurukulam Haridwar won gold, while Keshav, also from the same school, secured silver.

The wrestling matches were among the most exciting moments of the competition.

45 kg: Abhijeet from Patanjali Gurukulam Haridwar won gold; Lakshya from Gurukul Kishangarh Ghaseda Haryana won silver.

48 kg: Rahul from Gurukul Kishangarh won gold; Arjun from Patanjali Gurukulam Haridwar came second.

51 kg: Shubham from Patanjali Gurukulam Haridwar secured gold; Rishabh from Kishangarh Ghaseda came second.

55 kg: Arjit from Patanjali Gurukulam won gold; Naitik from Kishangarh Ghaseda took silver.

60 kg: Amit from Patanjali Gurukulam Haridwar won gold; Vivek Sharma from GSS International School Agra came second.

65 kg: Vaibhav from Kishangarh Ghaseda Haryana won gold; Pawan from Patanjali Gurukulam Haridwar took silver.

71 kg: Shivansh from Patanjali Gurukulam won gold; Naveen from Kishangarh Ghaseda finished second.

80 kg: Shailendra Singh from GSS International College Agra won gold; Roshan from Patanjali Gurukulam Haridwar took silver.

Greco-Roman wrestling (under-17 boys)

45 kg: Abhijeet (Patanjali Gurukulam) won gold; Lakshya (Kishangarh Ghaseda) took silver.

48 kg: Rahul (Kishangarh Ghaseda) secured gold; Kavya (Patanjali Gurukulam) took silver.

51 kg: Shubham (Patanjali Gurukulam) won gold; Rishabh (Kishangarh Ghaseda) was runner-up.

55 kg: Bhuvan (Patanjali Gurukulam) won gold; Naitik (Kishangarh Ghaseda) silver.

60 kg: Sumit (Patanjali Gurukulam) gold; Vivek (GSS International Agra) silver.

65 kg: Vaibhav (Kishangarh Ghaseda) gold; Piyush (Patanjali Gurukulam) silver.

71 kg: Shivam (Patanjali Gurukulam) gold; Naveen (Kishangarh Ghaseda) silver.

80 kg: Roshan (Patanjali Gurukulam) gold; Shailesh Singh (GSS Agra) silver.

Wrestling (under-19 boys)

In the Freestyle category (70 kg), Vishan from Patanjali Gurukulam Haridwar won gold, while Mohan from Kishangarh Ghaseda Haryana took silver.

In the Greco-Roman 72 kg category, Mohan from Kishangarh Ghaseda Haryana claimed gold, while Vishal from Patanjali Gurukulam Haridwar secured silver.
