Viral fever is common especially at the time of seasonal changes. This is when many people seek natural remedies to alleviate the symptoms. Recently, Acharya Balkrishna, an expert in Ayurveda, shared a simple home remedy on Facebook that can help.

According to him, Tulsi, or Holy Basil, is one among the most efficient natural medicines for viral fever. For centuries Tulsi has been utilized in Ayurveda to enhance immunity and combat infection.

Acharya Balkrishna proposes an easy method to prepare a Tulsi decoction at home. Take 20-25 fresh Tulsi leaves and 3-4 cloves, crush them slightly, boil in 1 liter of water. Continue boiling until the water reduces to half. Then, strain the liquid.

He prescribes this decoction to be taken every half an hour during a viral fever. If taken regularly, it can help reduce fever and relieve other accompanying discomforts such as body aches and weakness.

Tulsi has anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, immune-boosting properties. Cloves on the other hand have antibacterial and antiviral effects. This simple concoction works in a natural way to support the body’s recuperation process.

Experts say home remedies like this can be helpful in the case of viral fevers which are low-grade. It is important, however, to monitor symptoms and consult a doctor if the fever is high or persists beyond its expected duration or is accompanied by other serious symptoms. In addition, plenty of water, rest and a light nutritious diet will further support recovery.
