Imagine this. Your alarm goes off, you’re already running behind, and the day is a marathon just about to begin. There’s no time for the gym, no energy for an hour-long yoga routine. What if you could recharge your body and mind in five minutes? Yoga guru Baba Ramdev assures you that you can.

The public face of yoga in the modern world both in India and overseas, Baba Ramdev spent years lecturing to an impatient world on ancient techniques. From packed parks in New Delhi to television programs viewed by millions, he has made yoga ubiquitous.

With his Patanjali empire, he also re-established Ayurveda and introduced herbal medicines and living to Indian homes. But now, rather than hour-long yoga classes, he’s got a remedy for that too: 5-minute Power Yoga.

Ramdev posted a video in which he showed this compact exercise, specifically for those who grumble about being “too busy” for a work-out.

The concept is easy: invest only 300 seconds, and your body becomes energized, your mind becomes relaxed, and your health receives an all-natural lift.

So, what exactly does this five-minute wonder routine consist of? Not mere breathing and stretching. Ramdev has woven strength, flexibility, and awareness into a brief but potent set of movements: gada ghumaana (mace swinging), hanuman dand, surya namaskar, chakrasana, and vajrasana.

Each pose addresses a different area of the body, so the brief session is surprisingly effective.

Let’s analyze what these movements actually do:

Chakrasana (wheel pose): This back-bending pose expands the chest, empowers the spine, and corrects posture. Ramdev says it also aids digestion and heart health and eases stress. Think of it as a natural energy drink that straightens out your body and your disposition.

Vajrasana (thunderbolt pose): Unlike the majority of yoga poses that need to be avoided immediately after meals, vajrasana is preferably done after meals. Sitting in this pose helps to enhance digestion, decrease acidity, and alleviate constipation. It also provides comfort to the back and induces mental tranquility. Five minutes here, and you might also experience sharper concentration.

Surya Namaskar (sun salutation): No doubt the most widely practiced yoga sequence worldwide, this flowing series of movements enhances flexibility, builds muscles, and maintains a healthy heart. Performing it in the morning injects energy into the body, leaving you energized all day long. It’s also said to control blood pressure and assist with weight management.

Gada Ghumaana (mace swinging): Modeled after ancient Indian warriors, the exercise develops upper body power, tones the muscles, and increases stamina.

Hanuman Dand: An energetic push-up style, this exercise targets the chest, thighs, and abdominal muscles. It is particularly effective in easing back pain as well as body sculpting.

You don’t require fancy gadgets, a yoga mat, or even a large area. You require determination. Be you a student scurrying to college, an office worker bound by deadlines, or a housewife with ever-piling tasks, five minutes can be spared. And, that’s the point he emphasizes.

So the next time you utter the words “I don’t have time to exercise,” recall Ramdev’s mantra: five minutes is all it takes to re-charge your body and energize your mind.
