Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Monday launched a scathing attack on the BJP, accusing it of resorting to “Vote Chori” (vote theft) to influence elections.
The Congress leader was responding to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s assertion that the NDA would win more than 160 out of 243 seats in the upcoming Bihar Assembly polls. He alleged that electoral malpractice has now become the BJP’s defining political strategy.
“In education, VC stands for Vice Chancellor. In the world of start-ups, VC stands for Venture Capital. In the military, VC is Vir Chakra. But now we have a new kind of VC that is defining our politics. Vote Chori,” Ramesh said in a post on handle X.
He also mentioned “VR” (Vote Revdi), suggesting the BJP’s alleged attempts to buy votes. Ramesh expressed confidence that Bihar’s politically aware electorate would defeat these machinations and elect a Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) government in the state.
The Bihar Assembly elections are expected to be a crucial test of the BJP’s strength in the state. The party has been facing opposition from various alliances, including the Mahagathbandhan.
Amit Shah’s claim about the NDA’s seat tally has sparked debate, with opposition leaders accusing the BJP of trying to manipulate the electoral process.
Ramesh’s statement highlights the Congress party’s growing concerns about the BJP’s alleged electoral malpractices.
The Bihar polls are expected to be a litmus test of the BJP’s strength in the state, with various alliances vying for power.
