PM Modi Celebrates 7 Years of Ayushman Bharat, Highlights its Impact on India’s Healthcare

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday marked the seventh anniversary of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), highlighting its revolutionary impact on India’s public healthcare system. Launched in 2018, the scheme has provided financial protection and dignity to millions of Indians, ensuring top-quality and affordable healthcare.

Key achievements of Ayushman Bharat include:

To enhance healthcare accessibility across India, 35.4 crore Ayushman cards have been issued.

The scheme has provided financial coverage for 7.79 crore hospital admissions.

The scheme has prioritised gender equity, with 49 per cent of Ayushman cards issued to women.

The scheme’s portability feature has enabled beneficiaries to access treatment anywhere in India, with 11.9 lakh hospitalisations under the the portability feature.

PM Modi emphasised that Ayushman Bharat has brought about a revolution in public healthcare, ensuring financial protection and dignity for millions of Indians. The scheme has been instrumental in reducing catastrophic out-of-pocket health expenditure, which pushes nearly 6 crore Indians into poverty each year.

By providing cashless access to healthcare services, Ayushman Bharat has ensured that beneficiaries receive quality medical care without financial burden. As PM Modi tweeted, “Today we mark #7YearsOfAyushmanBharat! This was an initiative that anticipated the needs of the future and focused on ensuring top-quality as well as affordable healthcare for people. Thanks to it, India is witnessing a revolution in public healthcare. It has ensured financial protection and dignity.”
