The government on Wednesday acknowledged that it has received a fresh request from Bangladesh for the extradition of deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was handed a death sentence by the ”International Crimes Tribunal”.

Hasina has been residing in India since August 2024, when she fled Dhaka during the student-led “July Uprising” that toppled her government.

”Yes, we have received a request. The request is being examined as part of ongoing judicial and internal legal processes. We remain committed to the best interests of the people of Bangladesh, including peace, democracy, inclusion and stability in that country and will continue to engage constructively in this regard with all stakeholders,” Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said at a media briefing.
