A five-storey building collapsed in south Delhi’s Saidullajab area near Saket Metro station under the limits of Mehrauli police station late on Saturday evening, officials said.
Police and emergency response teams, including fire tenders, NDRF and Civil Defence were rushed to the spot to carry out the rescue operation.
Around 5-6 people are feared trapped inside the building, while one person has reportedly been rescued.
Teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have also reached the site and are carrying out rescue operations.
Saidulajab Pradhan Ravinder Singh said, “I am not yet able to confirm the exact cause of this incident. It is being reported that the building is a five-storey structure. It has cafes, student-related spaces, and other commercial activities operating inside it.”
According to an eyewitness, the building was being used as office premises despite being in a dilapidated state.
“Some people who worked in night shifts must still be stuck there… It was at least a 5-storey building… three men have been rescued. My aunt is still stuck there…,” the eyewitness said.
