The second trailer for the animated sequel made its debut during the Super Bowl, instantly lighting up fans who grew up stomping Goombas. The clip promises a full-blown space adventure, shiny new characters, and plenty of chaos in the Mushroom Kingdom… and beyond.

The story sticks to a familiar goal with a fresh spin. Mario and his crew are once again trying to save Princess Peach, voiced by Anya Taylor-Joy.

This time, they get help from the powerful and mysterious Princess Rosalina, voiced by Brie Larson.

Old friends return, new trouble arrives

Fan-favourite characters are back in action. Chris Pratt returns as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as the scene-stealing Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as the wizard Kamek.

Adding fresh trouble is Bowser Jr, voiced by Benny Safdie, who dramatically announces in the trailer, “The great battle of my life draws near!”

One of the biggest highlights? Yoshi finally steps into the spotlight. Mario and Luigi get to know their dinosaur pal while traveling through outer space with Peach and Toad.

The trailer even teases a blink-and-you-miss-it moment where Yoshi literally eats Kamek.

Behind the scenes: The same winning team

The creative team from the 2023 hit is back. Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic return as directors, working from a script by Matthew Fogel, who also wrote the first film. The movie is produced by Chris Meledandri of Illumination and Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto.

Release dates around the world

Universal Pictures is releasing the sequel in theaters in early April 2026. The US and select territories get it on April 3, with theatrical rollout beginning April 1.

Japan will see the movie a bit later, on April 24, followed by other international markets through April.

India release is not confirmed yet.

Big shoes to fill after a massive hit

It also scored one of the biggest Easter weekend openings in history and finished as the year’s second-highest-grossing film, right behind ‘Barbie’.
