Raj Kundra on wearing turban for first time: “A deep sense of responsibility and pride”

Raj Kundra is all ready to make his big screen debut in Punjabi cinema with the film ‘Mehar’, and the experience has already left a deep mark on him, especially the moment he wore a turban for the very first time.

The businessman-turned-actor took to social media to share his feelings about stepping into the world of Punjabi culture through his character in ‘Mehar’. For Raj, wearing the turban, or “dastaar”, wasn’t just about playing a part, it became a personal and spiritual experience.

“Wearing a turban for the first time in my debut film Mehar was not just a part of my role,” Raj said. “It was a moment that touched my soul. The weight of that dastaar came with a sense of pride and responsibility.”

He explained that after this experience, he now chooses to keep his hair covered as a mark of respect and connection to Sikh values and principles. “Since that day, I’ve made a conscious decision to embrace the principles of Sikhi, not just on the outside, but as a way of life. It has grounded me, guided me, and connected me to a community I deeply respect and now feel a part of. I carry this honour with humility and love in my heart for Punjab and its people,” he wrote in his heartfelt post.

Raj also thanked the people who helped shape his look and performance in the film. He gave a special shoutout to Inderpreet Singh, also known as ‘Inderpreet Turbanator’, for tying his turban with such care.

He praised the film’s director Rakesh Mehta for visualising the character of Karamjeet Singh so beautifully, and expressed gratitude to designer Noor for styling him with such authenticity and cultural depth.

“Your eye for detail, cultural elegance, and authenticity helped me live Karamjeet, not just play him.,” Raj added.

‘Mehar’ is not just another project for Raj Kundra. It’s a big leap into a new world, a new language, a new culture, and a new industry.

Directed by the well-known Punjabi filmmaker Rakesh Mehta, ‘Mehar’ stars a talented ensemble cast including Geeta Basra, Master Agamveer Singh, Baninder Bunny, Savita Bhatti, Rupinder Rupi, Deep Mandeep, Ashish Duggal, Hobby Dhaliwal, Tarsem Paul, and Kulvir Sony.

The movie is produced by Divvya Bhatnagar and Raghu Khanna, under the banners of DB Digitainment and Raghu Khanna. Cinematography is by Ashudeep Sharma. The film is going to hit theatres on September 5, 2025.
