Anil Kapoor celebrates 37 years of ‘Ram Lakhan’, says Lakhan has aged “rather well”

As the iconic Bollywood blockbuster ‘Ram Lakhan’ completes 37 years since its release, Anil Kapoor took a nostalgic trip down memory lane, reflecting on his unforgettable portrayal of Lakhan, a character that continues to resonate with audiences decades later.

“Lakhan had energy, attitude and rhythm”

The actor shared throwback moments from the film on Instagram, accompanied by the evergreen track “My Name Is Lakhan”. Expressing gratitude for the love the film still receives, Anil remarked that Lakhan, with his unique swagger and spirit, has clearly stood the test of time.

“Ram Lakhan turns 37 today. Lakhan had energy, attitude, and a rhythm of his own — and clearly, he’s aged rather well. Grateful for the memories and the enduring love,” he wrote.

A film that became a cult classic

Released in 1989, the Subhash Ghai-directed entertainer starred Jackie Shroff, Madhuri Dixit, Rakhee, Amrish Puri, and Dimple Kapadia, along with a strong supporting cast that included Paresh Rawal, Anupam Kher, Gulshan Grover, Saeed Jaffrey, and Satish Kaushik.

Ghai also made a special appearance in the song “Tera Naam Liya Tujhe Yaad Kiya”. Widely regarded as one of Ghai’s finest works, ‘Ram Lakhan’ is celebrated for its memorable music, larger-than-life storytelling, and iconic performances.

Anil Kapoor’s energetic dance number “My Name Is Lakhan” remains one of his most recognisable career moments.

Story rooted in revenge and brotherhood

The film follows two brothers, Ram, an honest police officer, and Lakhan, a carefree playboy who set out to avenge their father’s murder at the hands of ruthless tricksters, blending action, emotion, and drama.

What’s next for Anil Kapoor

Anil was recently seen in ‘War 2’, directed by Ayan Mukerji, the sixth instalment in the YRF Spy Universe, also starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani.

He will next appear in ‘Subedaar’, a heartfelt drama about a former soldier grappling with civilian life and a strained bond with his daughter, played by Radhikka Madan.
