Two assailants shot a youth at point-blank range in West Bengal’s Howrah district around 4 AM on Wednesday, February 25, 2026. The incident took place in the Golabari police station area and was captured on nearby CCTV cameras.

The victim, identified as Safiq Khan, was reportedly standing near a roadside food stall when the attackers approached him. According to footage accessed by the police, one man stood in front of him while another positioned himself behind. Moments later, the assailants pulled out firearms and opened fire at close range.

Safiq collapsed on the spot after being shot in the head. The attackers then fired several more rounds before fleeing the scene. He was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

CCTV footage provides key clues

Police said the CCTV footage clearly shows the sequence of events and is being examined to identify and trace the suspects. Officers recovered visual evidence from nearby cameras and have launched a manhunt to locate the two men seen in the footage.

A senior official of Howrah City Police said a case has been registered and investigations are underway to determine whether the killing was linked to extortion, business rivalry or an old dispute.

Family points to old quarrel

Local residents identified the suspected attackers as Mohammad Harul Khan and another man named Rohit. Safiq, a local developer from the Peelkhana area, had reportedly gone out to buy food when he was targeted.

Family members alleged that the murder stemmed from a past quarrel. “There was a problem with Harul a long time ago. But there was no enmity. Harul brought another person and shot him,” a relative told reporters.

Police said further action will be taken once the accused are traced and arrested.
