‘Will cut off legs of any aggressor invading country’: Iran’s fierce warning to US over ground war

In a sharp escalation of rhetoric, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) today warned the United States that its armed forces will respond decisively to any invasion, signalling heightened tensions in West Asia.

According to Iranian state media Press TV, IRGC spokesperson Ebrahim Zolfaghari said the country’s military is prepared to act firmly against any external aggression. He asserted that Iran “will cut off legs” of any aggressor trying to invade the country. It would not hesitate to retaliate if its territory is threatened.

Warning amid fears of wider conflict

The strong statement comes amid growing concerns of a potential escalation involving the United States and its allies. Reports cited by Iranian media also suggested that Russian Chechen units could be mobilised to support Iran in the event of a ground offensive.

The situation remains tense as military posturing continues on multiple fronts in the region.

Trump weighing exit from Iran conflict?

Amid the rising tensions, a report by The Wall Street Journal indicated that US President Donald Trump is considering winding down military operations against Iran.

The report said Trump has discussed a possible timeline of four to six weeks to scale back the campaign, even if the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz remains closed.

Such a move could shift focus towards diplomatic efforts while potentially allowing Tehran to retain influence over the vital oil transit route.

Iran accuses US of ‘Double Game’

The Iranian leadership has accused the United States of mixed messaging. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, alleged that the US is publicly signalling negotiations while secretly preparing for military escalation.

He warned that Iran is ready for any confrontation. He also warned the Gulf countries, which are allowing the US to launch an attack from their soil, vowing to “punish” the regional partners.

“The enemy sends messages of friendship openly, while secretly plotting a ground invasion. We are waiting for their arrival; we will set them ablaze and punish their regional partners forever.” Ghalibaf said.
