Samsung Electronics on Monday appointed the company’s first female executive to the position of president of global marketing for its mobile division.
Lee Young-hee was elevated to the position of president of the Global Marketing Center for Samsung’s Device eXperience (DX) division, which is in charge of managing its mobile business.
According to the Yonhap news agency, she is the first female president of Samsung, the largest corporation in the nation, who is not a member of the founding family.
She is the daughter of the late Lee Kun-hee, chairman of Samsung Electronics, Lee Boo-jin currently holds the position of president and CEO of Hotel Shilla, a Samsung subsidiary.
Lee Young-hee joined the Global tech giant in 2007, and in 2012, she was given the position of vice president.
She was once employed by L’Oreal, and she is recognised for successfully marketing the name and reputation of Samsung’s Galaxy cell phones.
Samsung anticipated that the promotion would give other talented female employees the chance to push themselves to advance their careers.
She is one of seven new presidents appointed as part of the first small-scale corporate restructuring since Lee Jae-yong, the de facto leader of the firm, was elevated to executive chairman of the business in October.
Since Lee Jae-seung quit in October for unspecified “personal reasons,” Samsung has not named a replacement to lead its home appliance division.
Following Lee’s resignation, Han Jong-hee, vice chair and co-CEO of Samsung, will temporarily continue to perform the additional responsibility.
