Though Indian pacer Mohammed Shami had admitted that he was having affairs outside his marriage with Hasin Jahan, his cricket career won’t get affected.

On 17 March, a BCCI official had said the Indian cricket board would not judge Mohammed Shami on the allegations of domestic violence and adultery.

Mohammed Shami’s annual contract will be given to him the moment BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) gives him a clean chit over match-fixing allegations.

“Yes, there are specific allegations leveled against him by his wife. But the Kolkata Police is doing its job and it’s completely their domain. In BCCI, we can’t sit back on judgment on personal life and take away his livelihood. Also, the board doesn’t have the powers to do so,” the BCCI official told PTI.

“The BCCI’s handbook has an ‘Ethics Code’ for cricketers with a specific clause regarding financial transactions. The ACU is only investigating Shami’s dealings with Mohammed Bhai and Alishba and the alleged monetary exchange his wife is talking about.”

“If Kumar’s report absolves Shami of any wrongdoing, he will be immediately handed back his Central Contract.”

Even the Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Shukla also repeated BCCI’s words on the matter. Shukla said that they “have nothing to do with anybody’s private life”.

And now that fixing-charges against Mohammed Shami has been cleared, he had been given his contract back.

Earlier, Shami accepted that he was having affairs, while speaking to the Board of Control of Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ASCU), which was investigating the allegations of matchfixing.

According to a report published in DNA, Shami was lying to Hasin Jahan about London-based businessman Mohammad Bhai and ‘financial deals’, so that he could spend time with his “female friends” outside marriage in Dubai.

“ACSU checked all his bank accounts details and found no ‘suspicious entry’ whatsoever,” an Indian cricket Board insider was quoted as saying by the DNA.

“It was found out that Shami was only cooking up stories of ‘financial gains’ from a businessman to somehow go and spend time with his female friends outside his marriage.”

Notably, Shami’s contract was withheld following the match-fixing allegation made by his wife Hasin Jahan around a fortnight ago. Jahan had also accused the Indian pacer of domestic violence and adultery.

Earlier, while talking to ABP news, Hasin Jahan had hinted that Shami can be involved in match-fixing.
