Manchester United were dearly a massive injury blow as key midfielder Ander Herrera suffered a hamstring injury early on in their UEFA Champions League round-of-16 clash with Sevilla on Wednesday night and had to be subbed off.

Herrera raced into Antonio Valencia’s through-ball inside the Sevilla box and as he attempted a back-heel, the Spaniard pulled up. He immediately signalled to the bench that he couldn’t carry on.

French midfielder Paul Pogba, dropped to the bench for the clash in Spain, replaced the Spaniard in the 17th minute.

The 28-year-old Herrera is seen as a vital part of Jose Mourinho’s squad, even if he isn’t a guaranteed starter and he is almost certain to miss their Premier League clash with rivals Chelsea on Sunday.

Usually, a hamstring injury takes a couple of weeks to heal, which would mean United’s No.21 could be touch-and-go for the return leg of their European fixture, which takes place at Old Trafford on March 13.
