A Zomato delivery agent was reportedly bullied and assaulted by two men in an inebriated state in Narela, Delhi Police said on Wednesday.

The matter came to light when the victim, Arjun, called the officers of Narela police station, alleging that he was abused and manhandled during a routine delivery on Monday night.

“Arjun said the two men had placed a food order but forcibly took the delivery without making the payment,” said Hareshwar Swami, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outernorth).

The delivery agent alleged that the duo hurled abuse and physically assaulted him when he confronted them, the officer said.

After receiving the complaint, a team was immediately sent to the spot, after which one of the accused, Rishi Kumar, a local school teacher, was found in an intoxicated state.

When he was questioned by the inspectors, he was aggressive and began abusing the police, the DCP stated, adding that the teacher resisted their attempts to question him and had to be removed from the premises by force.

Kumar was then taken to a nearby hospital for a medical examination (MLC), where he said that his name was ‘Ram Kumar’ to conceal his identity.

Since Arjun was pressed for time due to work, he chose not to file a formal written complaint at that moment. However, Kumar was counselled by the police and later sent home.

The officer stated that an inquiry is underway in the matter.
