Amid the rising electricity demand due to intense heatwave conditions in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday, May 24, asked the energy department to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply in the state, including in rural belts and urban areas.

Uttar Pradesh’s electricity demand jumped from 501 million units per day to 561 million units per day in April-May due to the heat wave conditions across North India, with the peak demand touching 30,339 MW, according to an official statement.

Adityanath on Sunday reviewed power supply arrangements across the state in the presence of Energy Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma and Minister of State Kailash Singh Rajput. Also, present in the meeting were officials of the Energy Department, Power Corporation, and all DISCOMs.

Further, he stressed on making power distribution system more accountable and consumer-centric, besides asking Energy Department officials to work “with full sensitivity and promptness”.

Notably, Uttar Pradesh ranked second in India in terms of meeting the power demand during May 20-22, the official statement said.

During the meeting, Yogi Adityanath told officials to make the transmission network stronger as well as more modern and reliable. Further, he asked them to minimise any kind of technical disruptions during the summer season, besides ensuring continuous monitoring of the transmission network.

Officials informed that the state power transmission corporation limited was operating transmission lines that extend more than 60,858 circuit kilometres. Availability of the transmission network was recorded at 99.30 per cent, with transmission losses reduced to 3.2 per cent.

“The power distribution system in the state should be made more accountable and consumer-centric. While directing that feeder-wise accountability be fixed, the negligence at any level regarding transformer breakdowns, feeder disruptions, or complaint redressal would not be accepted,” Adityanath said.
