Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, was down for thousands of users globally on Monday. Users were unable to load pages and access core features, including posts, comments, For You, and Lists.
According to the outage tracking website Downdetector, a sharp spike in complaints was noticed across regions. As of 7.06 pm (IST), Downdetector received 42,261 reports in the United States, 11,388 in the United Kingdom, and over 2,128 reports in India.
A black screen with a white X logo appeared while trying to log in. There was no immediate statement from the social media giant. X boss Elon Musk, who often takes digs at other social media platforms when they face outages, didn’t comment either.
The services were restored in India after around 40 minutes. #XDown and #TwitterDown started trending on X, with several users posting memes on the outage.
“Twitter account is down, friends, has it started working for you?” asked a user. Another criticized X Corp CEO Elon Musk, saying, “Musk is running X with a team of 30 people. It goes down every other day.”
